2020
My work the year of 2020 was influenced by the pandemic. From stay at home orders and the mixed feelings of isolation, fear, anxiety...how one is feeling about one's situation and cultural surroundings has, for me at least, come out in my hands' work. As I have worked on developing skills, I tend to work on sculptures in small series. Several of these pieces are on the collage of the Gallery page on this site, but here I include a bit more information about how they work together, and maybe the impetus...of what was on my mind...or in some cases, working toward...
A few years ago, I had done two small series called Warrior Women. And this fall, after what felt like a long year, I wondered what a new imagined Warrior woman might look like today. But instead of warriors the women feeling heavy chaos in their minds, wearing onerous crowns appeared. Not to be too dark, there still is a bit of whimsy here...
Early March, right before the pandemic, a pushback against the "real world" vs the virtual...with one foot in each... This piece won first place for pottery in the Pekin Days Art Show, June 23-27.
